Baseline Service
Unfortunately we have found that it doesn't matter if your LC has a full Toyota service history, has been well maintained by a local garage or even prepared by another professional 4x4 company, more often than not there will be the sort of underlying issues that may not show up with normal day to day driving, but could cripple you on a long overlanding trip.
A typical issue is the condition of the axles - as a rule dealers and garages only ever touch these when there are problems with the wheel bearings or CV joints and then when work has been done on the axles by non dealers, cheap parts have been used which wouldn't last the trip. Just in the last 12 months we have had to rebuild around half a dozen front axles on 80 series within 200-1000 miles of them having been worked on by local garages or other 4x4 companies purely because either the job wasn't done properly in the first place or cheap parts have been used.
Based on our experiences we have therefore built up a list of items that should be checked
